  • Control the oil fields (Two oil fields are under direct control of Axis, one is directly threatened and the main oil fields near Baku do not have a land connection any more.
  • I achieved almost all my war goals in 1942. I was faster than in my planning, because the plan did not take the Red Army being wrecked by the AI into account. But at least I would not want to win for him anyway, so we have to go with a normal land-grab imperialist like Napoleon, who by the way goofed up this mission too, which in turn gives the goof by Hitler/Halder even more weight, because they should have known about mud & winter.īut I want to interprete the result nonetheless and project into the ongoing war, because speculating ist fun. Basically the result does not count for alt-history, because the Soviet side was dumbed down by the AI.īoth key changes on my side directly contradict moustache man's intentions, so there is absolutely no alt-history base for Axis winning employing this strategy. At the start of the summer offensive the Soviets had about 500k to 1M to few personnel on the map (compared to what they should have had when reacting realistically). This is very important to keep in mind when projecting the result of the game in an alt-history way into the future. The game felt realistic until the AI wrecked the Red Army in winter. I think realistically they would have tried to break through the defenses, presumably failed (maybe tried again once) and then went back to accumulating behind the frontlines. They committed when the invading Axis forces were overexpanded. The Soviets did not do that, they waited and accumulated a large force behind the frontlines after initial failures in October. This reaction basically boils down to the Soviet AI "attacking" fixed positions regardless of prior failures.
  • The AI kept pressing on the defensive line all winter and the ruleset of the game allowed me to attack the new arrivals without much penalties (realistically Axis troops would have to leave their safe winter quarters to attack, which is bad in deep winter/Blizzards).
  • The AI also reacted to the changes in a way which massively favoured me.
  • I went into defense at the start of the mud season.
  • I diverted forces from the North to Center, 4th Pz cooperated with 3rd Pz for encirclements instead of trying to cut off Leningrad.
  • In 1941 I changed the historical strategy in two ways I want real war strategy not some "civilization" tedium.Ĭan you tell I miss the good ol' days?, somewhere I have tons of cfs2 add-ons/planes/mods if I didn't lose them in the move.I used to dogfight over death valley terrain, based on actual geo-data, just enter the latitude and longitude in the game.
  • My final demand (before I start throwing out bodies): If I read the term "resource gathering" it goes in the trash bin.
  • Are there any with a decent mod/add-on community and ability to make new maps, etc?.
  • Are there any with a sim element?, (and more than a wimpy amount of sp content) I don't want to stare down at my tanks the whole time, I'm gonna get inside.
  • Rise of Flight I was excited about - the drudgery of the damage model and the boring SP content killed it for me.Įnough rant - now my demands (hehe) in a strategy ww2 game. So I've been playing good old titles like RB3D, jane's ww2 fighters, etc.

I'm not interested in joining some online free for all with a bunch of kids who've played forever and you're deadmeat.also not realistic - no real goal or progress. But alas, the sim genre is dying it seems and they did it to themselves by making games all multiplayer and impossible to mod. I'm mainly a sim guy since I enjoy adrenaline rushed battles with joystick, and it's mainly the machines that interest me.
